SMART Office Network Real Estate Careers- Getting Started

Careers - Getting Started

"In order to succeed, you must know what you are doing, like what you are doing, and believe in what you are doing!"
- Will Rogers

How do I prepare for a career in real estate?

  1. Talk with agents in the business. Ask lots of questions. This will help you assess whether a career in real estate is for you.
  2. Once you have made the decision to begin your real estate career, the first thing you must do is obtain a Colorado real estate license. Successful completion of a 168-hour salespersons pre-license course and passing the state exam is required. You can attend any number of real estate schools or you can complete the course at your own pace via computer. If you are looking to gain the most complete education to carry you, not only through the test, but also in your new career, take the pre-license course through the Metro Brokers Meridian School of Real Estate, please Click here.
  3. All real estate salespersons must be affiliated with a real estate broker. If you have not affiliated with a broker by the time you pass the state exam, your license will be kept with the Colorado Real Estate Commission until you activate it by affiliating with a broker. While taking the pre-license course, you'll want to interview with several real estate brokerage firms. Click here for questions to ask when interviewing a broker.
  4. Once you are licensed and affiliated with a broker, you will be licensed only until December 31st of the year you pass the examination.  You will then have to renew on January 01 of the preceding year for a 3 year period.
  5. The Colorado Real Estate Commission also requires that all licensees continue learning by taking continuing education courses. You will be required to complete 24 hours of continuing education credit during each 3-year license renewal period. Within each year a state mandatory 3-hour continuing education course must be completed.  Click here to request information regarding the Metro Brokers Meridian School of Real Estate Courses.
