Franktown is a census-designated place (CDP) in Douglas County, Colorado, in the United States. The population was 99 at the 2000 census.[3] The Franktown Post Office has the ZIP Code 80116.[2] Pike's Peak Grange No. 163 in Franktown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

 

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 99 people, 38 households, and 29 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 116.8 people per square mile (45.0/km²). There were 38 housing units at an average density of 44.8/sq mi (17.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.98% White, 1.01% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.01% of the population.

There were 38 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.7% were married couples living together, 2.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.1% were non-families. 21.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 36.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $60,375, and the median income for a family was $61,500. Males had a median income of $61,528 versus $30,139 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,744. None of the population was below the poverty line.

History

Franktown was the first county seat of Douglas County, serving in this role from 1861 until 1863.

Non-religious choices for elementary schools include Cherry Valley Elementary School, located at 9244 S State Highway, which serves grades K-6, and Franktown Elementary School, located at 1384 N State Highway 83, serving Pre-K through sixth grades. Middle school students attend Sagewood Middle School and high school students go to Ponderosa High School, both located in nearby Parker.

There are many area golf courses to visit -- both public and private. Franktown also offers plenty of hiking and walking trails as well as acres of open space. The Outlet Mall at Castle Rock is nearby as well, as are various area cafes, restaurants -- both fast food and Mom & Pop types -- and fueling stations. Parker Adventist Hospital, located at 9395 Crown Crest Boulevard in Parker, is about fifteen miles away, travel time taking roughly a half-hour, so you will not be far from health care if needed. The city of Parker is merely nine miles away from Franktown, taking only about 15 minutes to take care of all your shopping needs.
