The Alamo Placita neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, United States, is named after Alamo Placita Park which is located on the north side of Speer Boulevard between Ogden and Emerson Streets. The neighborhood is bounded by Downing Street (east), Speer Boulevard (south), Pennsylvania Street (west), 6th Avenue (north) west of Clarkson Street and 7th Avenue (north) east of Clarkson Street. Alamo Placita is part of a larger official neighborhood called Speer.

HISTORY

The history of the Alamo Placita Historic District tells the story of 1860s prairie land along Cherry Creek just three miles southeast of the new town of Denver. Farsighted investor Moses Hallett, an attorney from Illinois, bought the land in 1864. Halletts quarter section of land became Arlington Park Addition, and later, Alamo Placita neighborhood. By 1887, Denvers southern city limit was the northern border of Halletts claim (now East 6th Avenue). A road on the eastern edge of Halletts land, called Hallett Road, is now Downing Street. In 1889, Hallett sold his land to the Arlington Park Land and Improvement Company and became one of several investors in the company.

Platt Park is a quiet, cozy neighborhood with lots of friendly faces. Adjacent to the Louisiana/Pearl Street RTD light rail station, this community is great for peaceful strolls, but even offers bike rentals for fun and relaxing bike rides around the area. From June to October, you'll find the freshest and finest fruits and vegetables at the Old South Pearl Farmer's Market. Old Pearl Street also hosts Friday Night Art Walks, and annual music festivals and street fairs. Many of the homes within Platt Park are from the early 20th century. You'll find classic bungalows, Victorians, and some new construction as well, but overall, the area still has a historic, small-town feel. Most properties in this neighborhood have detached garages with access via alley.

Platt Park itself is located between East Florida and East Iowa Avenues (going N-S) and between South Grant and South Logan Streets (going E-W), and is a very peaceful although small park in the heart of the Platt neighborhood. There are lots of large, mature trees in the park, and the historic Decker Library is right next-door. If you drop by the park in late morning/early afternoon, you are sure to see several groups of people practicing Tai-Chi on the lucious green grass.

The Platt Park neighborhood is located west of the University of Denver. Mckinley-Thatcher Elementary School is in the Denver Public School system, and located at 1230 South Grant Street. Mckinley-Thatcher is dedicating to providing young children with an excellent education, has great teachers, and this school takes its students on many school field trips each year. There are some great private schools to choose from near Platt Park as well. Since Platt has two convenient light rail stations nearby, there is very easy access to Downtown Denver as well as I-25. The Platt Park Senior Center, located at 1500 S Grant Street, caters to people age 50 and over and has a dance space and meeting rooms available.
